What We Can Help With — For Children & Teens
Click each topic to see how your SLP can help on June 3.
Speech & Language
Speech sounds & unclear speech
If your child has trouble pronouncing certain sounds, sounds different from other kids their age, or is hard for others to understand, we can listen, screen, and let you know what would help.
Late talker
If your toddler isn't talking as much as you'd expect, or hasn't started using words yet, we can screen their language and help you decide on next steps.
Expressive language difficulties
Trouble putting thoughts into words, building sentences, telling stories, or finding the right word. We'll get a sense of what's going on and what kind of support would help.
Receptive language difficulties
Trouble understanding what's being said, following directions, or making sense of stories at school. We can screen comprehension and offer suggestions.
Social communication concerns
Difficulty making friends, holding conversations, taking turns, or reading social cues with peers. We can screen and discuss strategies or further support.
Literacy
Reading, writing & spelling difficulties
Trouble sounding out words, reading smoothly, understanding what was read, putting ideas on paper, or remembering spelling rules. Our SLPs can screen literacy skills and recommend next steps.
IPP consultation & specialized tutoring
If your child has an IPP (Individualized Program Plan), or you're trying to figure out what kind of tutoring or support would actually help, we can review what's in place and advise on what to do next.
Other Screenings the SLP Can Do
Occupational therapy (OT) concerns
Our SLPs can use an OT screening tool to flag concerns and refer you for follow-up. Common topics include:
- Feeding
- Sleeping
- Sensory interests or needs
- Daily routines
- Transitions
- Fine motor skills
- Printing
- Dressing
- Gross motor movements
Autism screening
Our SLPs are trained to administer the ADOS as part of a multi-disciplinary autism assessment team. On June 3 we can do an initial screening and, if appropriate, schedule a full assessment with our team for a future date.
Counselling & mental health concerns
If you're worried about anxiety, low mood, anger, social difficulties, or self-esteem, our SLPs can listen, screen for what's going on, and connect you with one of our Canadian Certified Counsellors for follow-up sessions.
Psychology assessment needs
If you're considering a psycho-educational or autism assessment to better understand your child's learning profile, our SLP can talk through whether it's a fit and, if so, schedule it with our psychologist for a future date.
What We Can Help With — For Adults
Speech-Language Pathologists support adults too. If something below sounds familiar, come in and talk it through.
Speech & Language
Stuttering
If you stutter — at work, in social settings, or in particular situations — our SLPs can screen what's going on and walk through evidence-based strategies and treatment options.
Voice difficulties
Hoarseness, vocal fatigue, loss of voice, or other changes in how your voice sounds or feels. We can screen and recommend the right next step (which may include a referral to an ENT).
Word-finding difficulties
If words feel stuck on the tip of your tongue more often than they used to, or you're struggling to find the right word in conversations, an SLP can help figure out what's behind it.
Communication after a stroke or brain injury
Aphasia, slurred speech, swallowing concerns, or other communication changes following a stroke, brain injury, or other neurological event. We can screen and start building a therapy plan.
Other Screenings the SLP Can Do
Autism screening
If you've wondered whether autism could be part of your story, our ADOS-trained SLPs can do an initial screening and connect you with a full multi-disciplinary assessment if it makes sense.
Counselling & mental health concerns
If you're navigating anxiety, low mood, life transitions, or other emotional challenges, our SLPs can talk it through and connect you with one of our Canadian Certified Counsellors for follow-up.
Psychology assessment needs
If you're wondering about a psycho-educational or autism assessment for yourself, our SLP can discuss whether it would be useful and schedule it with our psychologist for a future date.
