Why Parents Use This

We’ve reviewed thousands of screeners for families across Edmonton, St. Albert, and rural Alberta. Here’s what makes it worth your 12–15 minutes.

For your child

Early identification means earlier support during the most critical years of brain development. Small concerns caught early stay small. Some never become problems at all.

For you

Clinical expertise without the wait or the cost. A registered clinician reviews your answers and emails you a personalized written report — what’s on track, what to watch, and clear next steps if anything stands out.

Our team includes registered Speech-Language Pathologists, Occupational Therapists, Counsellors, Behaviour Consultants, Dietitians, and Psychologists — every clinician registered with their respective Alberta college.

Common Concerns Worth a Closer Look

Every parent notices things about their child and sometimes wonders, “Is this normal?” Here are common areas where a closer look can help. If any of these resonate, the screener will give you a clinician’s perspective — and a written report you can keep.

  • Late talker — toddler not yet using words, or using fewer words than expected for their age
  • Speech delay — speech that’s noticeably behind same-age peers
  • Stuttering — repeating sounds, syllables, or words; getting “stuck” when speaking
  • Unclear speech — child is hard for unfamiliar adults to understand past age 3
  • Trouble following directions — even simple ones, in a one-on-one setting
  • Social communication concerns — difficulty with turn-taking, joint attention, or peer conversation
  • Sensory sensitivities — child very upset by ordinary sounds, textures, or messy play
  • Sensory seeking — constantly crashing, spinning, mouthing non-food objects, or unable to sit still
  • Fine motor delays — struggle with crayons, scissors, buttons, dressing
  • Gross motor concerns — falls often, awkward gait, can’t hop or balance like peers
  • Feeding issues — gagging, pocketing food, very limited diet, mealtime meltdowns
  • Postural and regulation difficulties — can’t sit upright at the table, slumps, easily dysregulated

If anything in those lists sounds familiar, your screener will pick it up. Across all of these, the screening covers two big areas of your child’s development:

Communication

How your child uses sounds, words, and gestures, how they understand language, how they have conversations, and (for older kids) how their language supports early reading.

Movement & Senses

How your child moves and uses their body, how they manage fine motor tasks like drawing or dressing, how they handle sensory input, and how mealtimes and feeding are going.

What this is — and is not. This is a screening tool, not a clinical assessment. It identifies areas that may benefit from a closer look. If there are no concerns, your report will say so. If anything is flagged, our admin will be in touch to review next steps. There’s no pressure.
