Who we're looking for

The right fit

Must-haves

  • Registered with ACSLPA
  • Comfortable working with children and coaching their families
  • Available for both in-person sessions at our St. Albert clinic and virtual sessions
  • Reliable, organized, and a clear communicator

Nice-to-haves (not required)

  • Experience with pediatric caseloads
  • Availability after school or on weekends — demand is highest then, so those hours tend to fill faster and with fewer gaps between sessions
  • Interest in AAC, literacy, language, speech sound disorders, fluency, or early intervention
  • Interest in occasional adult work (stuttering, aphasia, stroke recovery) — mention it in your cover letter

New graduates take part in a structured, personalized mentorship program that includes:

  • One-on-one mentorship with an experienced SLP — regular check-ins, case support, and clinical guidance
  • A structured mentorship program covering assessment, treatment planning, and client communication
  • Ongoing professional development — internal training and learning resources
  • Hands-on guidance in the realities of private practice — caseload management, decision-making, workflow
  • Targeted training on specific skills or topics you want to strengthen
  • A gradual caseload build as you get established

Questions, answered honestly

Frequently asked questions

Is this an employee or contractor position?

It's a contract (self-employed) role. You invoice for your hours, and we handle client billing and administration on the back end. We'll walk you through exactly how it works during hiring.

How does pay work, and what's the range?

Pay is up to $110 per hour depending on your experience and caseload, and we pay weekly. We’ll go over specifics during hiring.

Do I have to deal with billing and admin?

We handle client billing and the bulk of the administration. Some admin is naturally part of clinical care, though. For example, if a client is with you, we'd ask you to book their next session or capture what's needed in the moment — it's simpler and more reliable to handle it right then than to follow up separately afterward. The heavy back-office work is ours; the small, in-the-moment pieces are yours.

What caseload and ages will I work with?

Mainly a pediatric caseload — children and youth, roughly ages 1–18. We also see some adult clients from time to time, for example stuttering, aphasia, and stroke recovery. If working with adults interests you, please mention it in your cover letter.

Where is the clinic, and do you offer virtual work?

Our clinic is in St. Albert, and we serve the greater Edmonton area. Clients choose in-person or virtual sessions, so you’ll need to be available for both — in person at our St. Albert clinic and online.

Can I work part-time or flexible hours?

Yes. Many of our clinicians start with one or two days, or a couple of evenings a week, and we work with you to find a schedule that fits. A lot of family demand is after school and after work, so availability during those times is especially valuable.

What qualifications do I need? I'm a new grad — is that okay?

You need to be registered with ACSLPA. New grads are genuinely welcome — you’ll join a structured mentorship program with one-on-one guidance from an experienced SLP, plus a gradual caseload build. See our mentorship program above.

Will I have support, or is this a solo role?

It's an independent role — you'll manage your own caseload — but you're not on your own. We're in the clinic together, so you can get feedback on a session or a report, or talk through a case whenever you need. You take on more independence over time, as you're ready.

Is there room to grow?

Yes — for the right candidate. Over time, we can talk about subsidizing a specialization and taking on added responsibilities. Additional hours depend on fit and demand, so it’s something we work out together rather than a given.
